Wisconsin Company Helps NASCAR Teams Get to Daytona

February 17, 2005, SHEBOYGAN, WI-Ever wonder how the race teams got to Daytona for the Speed Week activities? For many teams in the NASCAR garage, they flew from Charlotte, NC to Daytona Beach on a Boeing 737-800 jet operated by a private air carrier, Team Flight Support.

Team Flight Support is a new air transportation choice for NASCAR teams. As part of its startup process, Team Flight Support and its marketing agency, Apex Communications Group, quickly realized the requirement for a Web-based reservation and travel management system and contracted with cuttingedj.com of Sheboygan, WI to develop the application.

"We started talking with Team Flight Support just before Thanksgiving," said Nat Workman, owner of cuttingedj.com. "We pushed really hard to deliver their application in time for Daytona, which was a tight timeframe that didn't leave much opportunity for testing. The fact that setting up the teams in the system and booking passengers went smoothly is a testament to the product and our abilities as a supplier."

As the primary day-to-day contact with Team Flight Support, Apex Communications Group provided content and artwork, as well as help shape the product requirements.

"We have worked with Apex Communications on other projects, which allows us to concentrate on our core compentency of application development, while they provide expert content, design, and strategic marketing support," noted Workman.

For Team Flight Support, the Web-based booking and travel management application is one of its competitive advantages.

"There are several established competitors and none of them have a travel management system," explained Joe DePaulis of Team Flight Support. "I'm glad we made the decision to build the application, as it has vastly surpassed my expectations and gives us a huge leg up."

Cuttingedj.com developed a Web-based application that allows teams to upload and manage their passengers, book flights, and track travel usage. Other Team Flight Support partners such as GoGoJet Inflight food service can also log into the Web-based application to monitor the number of passengers booked to a particular flight so they can efficiently prepare meals.

"In addition to monitoring passenger usage, we can also better integrate with our service providers," explained DePaulis. "Flight schedules, passenger manifests, and even FBO information for destination locations is available for clients online. This system makes it so easy for team travel coordinators to get their passengers booked every week, and for us to check-in passengers at the gate, as well as meet FAA requirements."

Team Flight Support (www.teamflightsupport.com) flies many top-tier NASCAR teams competing in Craftsman Truck, Busch Series, and Nextel Cup. In addition to serving NASCAR teams, Team Flight Support is looking toward expanding to other race series and professional sports.

Since 1996, cuttingedj.com (www.cuttingedj.com) has developed Web sites and applications for organizations ranging from small businesses to Fortune 100 conglomerates in industries from electrical power generation to product distribution, and industrial pumps to non-profit organizations.
